Week of May 11
Language Arts
This week will be our final story in our Houghton Mifflin textbook! The story, "Ramona Quimby, Age 8" is a great way to end out unit. Our skills this week include: making generalizations, contractions and adverbs!
MathWe are wrapping up our unit on story problems and will be testing on Tuesday, May 12. This will conclude all of our units in our math books! I will end the year introducing students to some of the concepts they will begin 4th grade learning!
Social Studies
Students created a "Capitol Trifold" showing the three branches of government (Executive, Legislative, and Judicial). We also studied different levels of government (city, county, state, national). Our big idea questions were: Why do we need government? Who takes our place and why? Can government be too small our too big? What are the consequences of each? Our last social studies unit is Economics! Students wrote letters to Michigan businesses and some of them have sent information and product samples back! Next week students will receive a home project where they will need to make a brochure advertising a Michigan business. Please look for this in your child's backpack next week! Science We have finished learning about the layers of the earth and began learning about changes in the earth's surface with an earthquake in Michigan! Students learned how the earthquake happened, where it happened and how it was measured. We also learned about tsunamis and volcanoes. Next, we move on to rocks and minerals! |
